Hi Wendy, I’m am looking for professional editing services. Can you please contact me directly at girls4hire@yahoo.com.
when is your next writing workshop?
Hi Barbara! Thank you very much for asking. I have a few options for you from which to choose.
First, I am right now scheduling a workshop to be held this-coming winter. I have not settled on a date or a venue yet, so stay tuned. I intend it to be both a good introduction to writing for the beginner as well as a refresher for the “road weary” veteran writer. We’ll have some creativity boosters and writing refreshers, updates on the publishing industry, a genre overview, focus sessions on blogging, nonfiction and fiction, a workshop session, a presentation on traditional vs. self-publishing, and a discussion of marketing and promotion. The location will be probably Ohio, Kentucky or Indiana; as soon as I hear back from a couple of facilities and co-presenters, I’ll post some more information on this one! In the meantime, check out these other opportunities in Cincinnati, below.
Writing Workshop Workshop: On Cincinnati’s East side, I’ll be holding my monthly “Writing Workshop Workshop.” Here, writers are encouraged to share their writing and learn the gentle art of critiquing and being critiqued. Location: Allyn’s Cafe, 3538 Columbia Parkway, Cincinnati, OH 45226-2140. Cost: $5 if you choose to read. When: 2 p.m., June 19 (yes, Father’s Day)
“Writing to Publish: Level II”: Offered through the University of Cincinnati’s Communiversity program, this class offers participants a forum to take one book or magazine idea and carry it through query, proposal and (we hope!) feedback stage. We will also spend one class workshopping our writing. This session will be offered at UC’s Victory Parkway Campus, starting June 20 and running on Monday nights into August (with two weeks off in July). As a prerequisite, you need to have either taken my “WtP: Level I” class or have prior publishing experience.
“Writing to Publish: Level I”: In this class, I teach the nuts and bolts of writing for publication, starting with an overview of genres and a refresher of good writing. This class will run Thursday nights in the fall, starting October 6. The link for this class is not live yet, but if you go to http://www.uc.edu/ce/commu/noncreditreg/ in late August or September you’ll be able to register.
Here’s a brand new Communiversity class! You asked for it; you’ve got it!
Scientific and Technical Writing for Researchers: In this class, I will discuss good writing technique that is specifically needed by engineers, scientists, people in the medical field, and other researchers who need to write research papers and other technical documents for their field of study and work. We’ll look at typical document types and discuss the many style guides followed by people in different fields. For example, the Council of Biology Editors (CBE) has a great style guide for people in the natural sciences, but their guide isn’t very useful for people whose work is mostly in the computer field or dealing with the Internet. For them, the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) or The Yahoo! Style Guide would be much more appropriate. We will also touch on the special needs of people for whom English is a second language. (The only good news about English is that our articles don’t have to indicate gender.)
